The red cattle sales in the district produced higher averages for Hereford studs Mokairau and Wilencote on Wednesday.
Mokairau, at Whāngārā, went first that morning – 29 of its rising 2-year-old bulls selling for an average price of $9946.
The top price was $17,000 paid by a commercial buyer.
Wilencote, at Ngatapa, held its sale in the afternoon and sold 33 at an average price of $15,212.

Its top price was $25,000 for Lot 1, which sold on stud transfer to Matariki Herefords in Clarence Valley, Kaikōura.
“Across both studs we saw a wonderful display of good, strong Herefords,” PGG Wrightson genetics representative Emma Pollitt said.
“The sales were well supported by local farmers and the averages for both studs were up on last year.
“It was a rewarding day for two hard-working families who have stuck to their knitting and continue to produce ideal Hereford cattle for our environment.”
