Prince William has shared a rare photo of his late mother, Diana, Princess of Wales, in a touching Mother’s Day tribute.
The image, taken in 1984 from the royal family’s private collection shows Prince William, then aged 2, and his mother in a wildflower meadow, the BBC reported.
It is believed the picture has not been shared publicly before.
Dressed in a pink sweater, the Princess is seen smiling coyly while sitting cross-legged and holding Prince William’s hand as he looks at the flowers and tall grass at their Highgrove home in Gloucestershire.
“Remembering my mother, today and every day,” the Prince of Wales captioned the Instagram post.
“Thinking of all those who are remembering someone they love today. Happy Mother’s Day. W.”
Princess Diana died aged 36 after a car crash in Paris on August 31, 1997.
Prince William previously reflected on the kind of grandmother he believes his mother would have been in the 2017 documentary Diana, Our Mother: Her Life and Legacy.
He joked that Diana would have adored her grandchildren but might also have been “a nightmare grandmother”, according to Hello! magazine.
“She’d come and go and she’d come in probably at bath time, cause an amazing amount of scene, bubbles everywhere, bathwater all over the place and - and then leave.”

In 2021, he shared heartfelt Mother’s Day cards written by his children to their “Granny Diana”.
“Dear Granny Diana, I am thinking of you on mother’s day. I love you very much. Papa is missing you. Lots of love Charlotte xxxxxxxxx”, Princess Charlotte wrote on a pink card with a large hand-drawn heart surrounded by butterfly stickers.
Her older brother Prince George wrote: “Dear granny Diana, Happy happy Mother’s Day. I love you very much and think of you always, sending lots of love from George xxxxx”.

The Royal Family X account also marked Mother’s Day with several throwback photos.
“Wishing Mothers everywhere, and those who might be missing their Mums today, a restful Mothering Sunday.”

One grayscale image from 1953, shows Queen Elizabeth II posing on a garden bench with her two eldest children, the future King Charles III and his sister Anne, Princess Royal.
Her younger sons, Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor and Prince Edward, had not yet been born and do not appear in the photograph.

Another historical photo shows Elizabeth II with The Queen Mother, while another features Queen Camilla with her mother, Rosalind Shand.
