Police investigate alleged stabbing in Whangārei early Sunday morning

A man was left with two stab wounds after an incident in the Whangārei suburb of Woodhill early on Sunday morning.

Police were called to the Oakland Avenue address at about 5am.

The victim was found with moderate injuries, believed to be two stab wounds, and was taken to hospital, police said.

Hato Hone St John confirmed an ambulance treated one patient and took them to Whangārei Hospital in a moderate condition.

One person has been arrested.

Police are now working to establish the circumstances around what happened.

Meanwhile, in a separate incident over the weekend, a person was hospitalised after an alleged assault on Butter Factory Lane, in Whangārei’s CBD, in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Emergency services were called at about 1.30am after a person was found unconscious in a car park following an assault.

Hato Hone St John ambulance took the person to Whangārei Hospital in a moderate condition.

Police are investigating.

The incident comes exactly two weeks after a large fight also occurred on Butter Factory Lane.

In the incident on November 3, three people were hospitalised - including one man who needed surgery - and three people were arrested.
