Arrowtown restaurant fire under control after kitchen blaze

NZ Herald

A fire has broken out at a restaurant in Arrowtown.

A fire at a Arrowtown restaurant this afternoon is believed to have started in the kitchen.

Fire and Emergency New Zealand was called to the blaze about 4.17pm and responded with crews from Arrowtown and Frankton.

On arrival, crews found a two-storey restaurant building “well involved” in fire.

A witness said a section of Buckingham St had been blocked off, however, it was not clear which building was on fire.

A second alarm was raised and additional crews from Queenstown were sent to help, a Fire and Emergency shift manager told the Herald.

Firefighters worked to contain the fire, which was believed to have started in the kitchen.

The shift manager said crews had the fire under control and several fire engines had been released from the scene.
