Four people have been arrested after an attempted armed carjacking in a Christchurch seaside suburb.
Senior Sergeant Kerry Joyce, Canterbury District Command Centre, said police were called to the Esplanade in Sumner around 10.40pm last night after the alleged offenders attempted to take the victim’s vehicle.
“The victim has allegedly been approached and threatened by the offenders with a weapon,” Joyce said.
“The offenders left the scene prior to Police arrival, however were located a short time later and taken into custody.
“Thankfully, the victim is uninjured however, is understandably shaken by the incident.”
Two youths have been referred to Youth Aid.
Another youth and a 22-year-old man are due to appear in Christchurch Youth Court on May 28, charged with demands to steal and disguised for burglary.
Inquiries into the incident remain ongoing.
