State Highway 8 remains closed while the Serious Crash Unit works.
One person has died following a serious two-vehicle crash on State Highway 8 near Tekapo this afternoon.
Emergency services were called to the crash on SH8/Tekapo-Twizel Rd at about 4.30pm.
Police said one person died at the scene, despite the best efforts of emergency responders.
“No other injuries were reported.”
The crash occurred near the intersection with Tekapo Canal Rd, south of the Tekapo-Pūkaki Canal Bridge.
The highway remains closed while the Serious Crash Unit examines the scene.
Motorists are advised to take an alternative route or delay travel.
