Police appeal for witnesses after one dead, one seriously injured in SH5 crash, Rotorua
Police are appealing for information after one person died and another was seriously injured in a crash in Rotorua this morning.
Emergency services attended the two-vehicle crash on State Highway 5 in Whakarewarewa, south of Rotorua at 5.05am on Sunday.
Earlier, police said in a statement the road was expected to remain closed for some time and advised motorists to take alternate routes.
The road reopened almost seven hours later at 11.45am.
Police are now appealing for information from anyone who saw a silver Mazda Atenza travelling along SH5 about 5am.
Anyone who witnessed the crash, or movements of the vehicle prior to the crash, is asked to contact police on 105 or online at 105.police.govt.nz, using “update my report” and referencing file number 240331/6189.
