Police arrest driver after stolen Piha fire appliance tracked across city

Police arrested a person after a fire appliance was stolen from the Piha Fire Station this morning, triggering a police response across Auckland.

Shortly before 11.30am today, Fire and Emergency NZ staff reported one of their vehicles had been stolen from Piha.

The vehicle was tracked heading east before police pulled it over on Hillsborough Rd, just off Mt Albert Rd, just after 11.30am.

The driver was arrested, and police say charges are pending.

When approached by the Herald, the Piha Fire Station station manager declined to comment and directed inquiries to the Fire and Emergency NZ national media team.
