A person with critical injuries has been airlifted to an Auckland hospital after a crash on State Highway 25 near Whangamatā this afternoon.
The serious crash has closed SH25 in both directions between Whitipirorua Rd and Aileen Place, according to the NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi website.
Police said a single car was involved in the crash, which has left two injured, one critically and another seriously.
“The critically injured person has been airlifted to Auckland,” police said.
The Serious Crash Unit is carrying out a scene examination.
The closure is in place south of Ōnemana and north of Whangamatā.
Southbound traffic can access Ōnemana from Hikuai, while northbound traffic can still reach Whangamatā from Waihī.
The highway is expected to remain closed until further notice.
