A West Auckland man has been reunited with his purebred cats after they were stolen while he was moving house.

Police were called to Rush Creek Drive on Saturday after the owner returned to the property to find his two British shorthairs were missing.

The breed can sell for between $1500 and $3000.

Waitematā west area prevention manager Acting Inspector Nick Salter said the man had been collecting the last of his belongings when he made the discovery.

“The victim managed to speak with neighbours who had CCTV, and after a number of inquiries and some excellent teamwork, we managed to identify the alleged thieves.”

Salter said the cats were located at a Massey residence and three young people, aged 12 and 13, have now been referred to Youth Aid Services.
