Hereford bull sales this week showed the breeders involved have “stuck to their knitting” and continue to produce ideal cattle.

That was the comment from PGG Wrightson genetics representative Emma Pollitt.

Mokairau, at Whāngārā, sold 29 of its R2 for an average price of $9946.

Wilencote, at Ngatapa, sold 33 cattle at an average price of $15,212.

The top price at Mokairau was $17,000 while Wilencote’s was $25,000.

“Across both studs we saw a wonderful display of good, strong Herefords,” Pollitt said.

“The sales were well supported by local farmers and the averages for both studs were up on last year.

“It was a rewarding day for two hard-working families who have stuck to their knitting and continue to produce ideal Hereford cattle for this environment.”
