Police were called to the Forest Hill shopping centre on Canterbury Road just before midday today, following reports that a man was carrying a weapon while walking inside the complex.
A witness told radio station 3AW that the man was spotted outside Coles supermarket.
“There’s a gentleman outside Coles supermarket with headphones that was pacing up and down near the escalators there with a knife,” he told 3AW.
He said the knife allegedly carried by the man looked like a butcher’s boning knife.
Victoria police said the Box Hill man, 30, was arrested and transported to hospital for assessment and further interviews.
No one was injured or threatened at the shopping centre.
