Mt Wellington shooting: Person arrested as armed police prepare to raid house
A person has been arrested over a shooting in Mt Wellington, just as police were preparing to raid a property in relation to the incident.
It follows a man being taken to hospital with a serious gunshot wound just after 6.30am on Tuesday.

Police had been investigating “a person and location of interest” over the shooting, Senior Sergeant Michael Wickman said in an emailed statement.
They were preparing to execute a search warrant on a house in nearby Ireland Rd late last night when a person drove away from the property, Wickman said.
“[The person] has subsequently been taken into custody in Pakuranga without issue.”

Some police executing the search warrant were armed as a precaution, he said.
Ireland Rd was cordoned off at both ends around 10.45pm, with the police helicopter and numerous police cars in the area, according to a Facebook post.
A Herald photographer said the person was arrested on Millen Avenue, which is around 4km from Ireland Rd.

On Tuesday armed officers were seen stationed at the top of the driveway of the Mt Wellington Highway house where the man was hurt.
A specialist in white protective gear could be seen walking around the property’s exterior.
Neighbour Jude Bastain told the Herald he had seen the police at the property before, most recently three weeks ago.

Wickman said work was continuing to determine the circumstances of what had happened.
“Police thank members of the public for their patience while there has been an increased police presence.”
He asked anyone who had useful information to contact police through 105, either online or by calling and quoting reference number P066504576.
Information could also be reported anonymously via Crime Stoppers on 0800 555 111.
